The VCE Optical Lab at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women is a full-service provider of prescription eyeglass services.

VCE Optical is the eyewear provider for VA state agencies, VADOC, DJJ, and major Virginia nonprofit organizations.

The VCE Lab provides training and works closely with the VADOC Division of Education’s Optical Technologies program, employing an average of 10 inmates. Some inmates upon release have transitioned to the private optical industry.

Our Lab uses modern equipment that is often found in optical super-stores, and the lab can produce over 13,000 jobs annually.

For our inmates we offer basic lens designs, Single Vision, Bifocal and Trifocal lenses. Multiple material choices are available to include plastic, polycarbonate and Hi-index. We offer many add-ons to include tints, transitions, anti-reflective coatings and more. (for inmates the add-ons require documented medical reason of necessity)

For government agencies and nonprofit entities, we offer a wide range of lens options to include the new high-definition digital lens designs offered by the private industries.

We are also able to provide Safety eyewear. Our current safety frame contract is with Hoya. A large variety of safety frames are available for government and nonprofit entities (only plastic frame designs) and a smaller selection for our inmates.
