Prescription Eyewear
The VCE Optical Lab, located at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, is a comprehensive provider of prescription eyewear services.
As the primary eyewear provider for Virginia state agencies, the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC), the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), and major Virginia-based nonprofit organizations, VCE Optical plays a key role in meeting the eyewear needs of these groups.
The VCE Lab collaborates closely with the VADOC Division of Education’s Optical Technologies program, offering hands-on training and employment opportunities to an average of 10 inmates. Several inmates, upon release, have successfully transitioned into the private optical industry.
Equipped with modern technology commonly used in optical retail stores, the VCE Optical Lab produces over 13,000 jobs annually, ensuring high-quality service and production.
For inmates, we provide a variety of basic lens designs, including Single Vision, Bifocal, and Trifocal lenses. We also offer a selection of materials, such as plastic, polycarbonate, and high-index options. Additionally, a range of add-on features is available, including tints, transitions, anti-reflective coatings, and more.
Please note that for inmates, any add-ons must be supported by a documented medical necessity.
For government agencies and nonprofit organizations, we offer an extensive selection of lens options, including the latest high-definition digital lens designs available in the private industry.
Additionally, we provide safety eyewear, with our current safety frame contract in partnership with Hoya. A wide variety of safety frames are available for government and nonprofit entities (limited to plastic frame designs), while a more selective range of safety frames is offered to inmates.
